In the world of Everyday Carry, the debate between folding knives and fixed blades is eternal. While folders offer compactness, they come with a hidden cost: maintenance. Pivots, screws, and locking mechanisms are magnets for lint, dust, and moisture.
The Tyrus Fixed Blade was born from a desire to strip away the complexity. We wanted a tool that was virtually indestructible, incredibly easy to clean, and small enough to vanish in a pocket. A pure expression of steel.

The Concept: Simplicity by Design
Our vision for the Tyrus was a minimalist fixed blade that offered the utility of a full-sized tool without the bulk. We aimed to create a design that remains iconic and recognizable despite its extreme simplicity, carrying forward the VUUS DNA established by the Zero Carabiner and the Tyrus Prybar.
Simplicity never means a lack of detail.
We focused on the intersection of aesthetics and ergonomics: specifically the contoured grip zones and the recessed thumb-rest surfaces. These intentional design choices ensure a secure, high-traction grip in both urban and outdoor environments, proving that minimalist form can, and should, enhance technical function.

From Sketchpad to 3D Prototyping
Every VUUS product starts with a pencil and paper. The ideation phase for Tyrus focused heavily on ergonomics.
How do you make a compact knife feel secure in the hand?
Once the silhouette was refined, we moved into CAD design and 3D printing. Using PLA prototypes allowed us to test the "hand-feel" in real-time, adjusting the geometry of the handle and the blade grind until the balance was perfect. This digital-to-analog workflow is crucial for achieving that architectural aesthetic that defines our brand.

Material Selection and Field Testing
Transitioning from plastic to steel is where the Tyrus truly came to life.
For the final blade, we selected Sandvik 14C28N. We chose this high-performance stainless steel for its exceptional corrosion resistance and toughness. Since the Tyrus is designed for pocket or neck carry, it needs to handle moisture without rusting while maintaining a razor-sharp edge that is still easy for the user to sharpen in the field.

From Kickstarter Success to Your Pocket
The journey of the Tyrus wouldn't have been possible without our community. We launched Tyrus on Kickstarter, and the response was overwhelming.
Thanks to the support of hundreds of backers, we moved from final prototypes into full-scale production.
Today, Tyrus represents the core philosophy of VUUS: Technical utility, iconic design, and a commitment to quality.
